I believe in partnering with clients on a journey of self-discovery, developing realistic and achievable life goals using a mix of empirically-supported therapeutic approaches. These approaches include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. I also employ motivational enhancement strategies to augment treatment such as those recommended by Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change models.
Given that individuals will dedicate a good deal of time, money and energy to therapy, I believe a therapist should be chosen carefully. I view therapy as a partnership with someone you can trust. Psychotherapy is not like visiting a medical doctor; it requires very active involvement and your best efforts to honestly examine thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns. I believe painful experiences, thoughts and feelings do not define who you are or dictate your potential to live a fulfilling life. I believe every individual is capable of transcending these experiences, redefining who they are and actualizing their potential. Many individuals I have treated report positive mood change, enhanced coping skills, improved physical health, self-acceptance, mindfulness and satisfaction in social, romantic and family relationships.
Dr. Crowley specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and weight-related concerns (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder), mood disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety disorders (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Phobia, General Anxiety Disorder) and adjustment disorders (relationship issues, life and work stressors, post-partum adjustment). In addition, she maintains a coaching practice aimed at providing clinical supervision and professional mentorship to therapists interested in building a private psychotherapy practice.

Dr. Crowley is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with faculty appointments at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Honors in Psychology from Bucknell University. She completed her Masters and Doctoral degrees at Ohio University. Dr. Crowley completed her pre and post-doctoral fellowships at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She has 24 years of experience in private practice treating teens, adults and families in group and individual psychotherapy as well as consultation.
Dr. Crowley has taught psychology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She is currently the Senior Eating Disorders Consultant for the Pavilion Program at McLean Hospital. Dr. Crowley provides consultation and training workshops to various area hospitals and residential treatment programs. She regularly supervises psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows at McLean's Klarman Eating Disorders Program. In addition, Dr. Crowley was the former Clinical Coordinator of McLean's Adult Eating Disorders Speciality Track housed within the Behavioral Health Partial Program.
Dr. Crowley presents and lectures at professional conferences, universities and secondary schools. She is involved in publishing research related to eating disorders as well as training and supervision. (See Presentations and Publications tab for details). Dr. Crowley has been a media consultant on the topic of eating disorders for Marie Claire magazine and WBZ News, Boston. She is a member of both The Academy of Eating Disorders and the Massachusetts Multiservice Eating Disorders Association.
